It is a dream I have fulfilled today and I am very happy to be Danish champion ” Christian KONGSGAARD said after the final. “I was well prepared. My tactic was to play Finn deep in the backhand and short in the middle of the table and I am very satisfied that I could keep this tactic. When I won the first set quite easy I became mentally stronger.” In the final of the Men’s Singles Christian KONGSGAARD overcame Finn TUGWELL 4:1 (4 9 -8 10 10). In semi final KONGSGAARD succeeded against Allan BENTSEN 4:3 (-9 4 7 9 -9 -8 9) whilst TUGWELL overcame Martin MONRAD 4:2 (6 8 7 -11 -7 9). Mie SKOV won the women? singles. VALASTI who has been playing altogether 18 times in the singles final got a small compensation for his semifinal loss by taking gold medal in men? doubles with Mika TUOMOLA another experienced 40 years old player from Tampere. RASANEN overcame Timo TAMMINEN in semifinal and that preserved Event from any surprises. However in quarter finals RASANEN was very near to defeat in the match against Toni SOINE RASANEN succeded in narrowest margins – 3:4 with the two last games won by 10-12. Hanna NYBERG took her second title in Women? Singles by beating only 14 years old Pinja ERIKSSON 4-2 in the final. Mother and daughter Svetlana and Anna KIRICHENKO took their first Women? doubles title. At the end Pentti OLAH got one title from the competition: together with Henrika PUNNONEN Olah is a new Finnish champion in Mixed doubles. Mixed is played really seldom in Finland. The game was in one sense very equal: not a single player was able to take more than one national title. Championship took place in second largest city of Lithuania Kaunas. After 3 years break Ruta PASKAUSKIENE participated in the national championship and as anyone had no doubt – she won. In the final she met Lina MISIKONYTE and succeeded – 4:2. Third place won by Ieva JUCEVICIUTE. In men’s singles Kestutis ZEIMYS won national champion title for the first time. He beat Alfredas UDRA in seven sets fight. UDRA was leading 10:7 in the last game but could not win a point after that. ZEIMYS won 4:3 and last set – 12:10. Third place won Gintautas JUCHNA. European champion of 2008 Ruta PASKAUSKIENE became absolute champion of Lithuania. Apart from she won women singles also took gold medals in doubles and mixed doubles. Ruta playing in a pair with Misikonyte in the final beat Ingrida PREIDZIUTE and Ramune ARMONAITE 3:2. In mixed doubles Paskauskiene and Matas SKUCAS won 3:0 against Egle STUCKYTE and Tonetas DOMEIKA.
