The men’s team (Michel DE BOER Wai-Lung CHUNG Gregor FORSTER Casper TER LUUN and Boris DE VRIES) has encounters against Serbia Scotland Nigeria USA and Turkey. “We had a good preparation and not a bad draw either“ – says women’s head coach CHEN Zhibin -. The reigning European team champions (2008 2009) will start their journey to glory against Czech Republic on Sunday. After that the crucial matches against Singapore and Germany are scheduled. ”Our target is to reach the quarter finals and after that we’re looking for a surprise against one of the leading teams from Asia.” The men’s team didn’t participate in the last two WTTC and is now back on the international scene. The players of head coach Danny HEISTER will open their campaign against Serbia. ”We will try to stay in de 2nd Division because our the team is still in the build up period. So I told the players that have to play their own game as much as possible and to learn much from stronger opponents.” Next year the WTTC will be held in Rotterdam from 8-15 May 2011. For women the challenge is even bigger especially after absence of the leader XIAN Yi Fang due the injury. Stephane HUCLIEZ is the coach of the men team with Christophe LEGOUT Adrien MATTENET Emmanuel LEBESSON Abdel-Kader SALIFOU and Simon GAUZY. In Women’s team are Carole GRUNDISCH Aurore DESSAINT Audrey MATTENET and Alice ABBAT “In Moscow we will try to reach the second stage. It is hard to expect that we can beat Asian teams. Our aim is to make ourselves dominate in Europe. We want the medal in 2010 at the European Championships this September ” said coach Stephane HUCLIEZ . France is in the Group with China Russia Greece Poland and Italy.“The match against China should give us space to fell the hall and to prepare for the next encounters. We are not sure about GIONIS and KREANGA in Greece but we already know that SMIRNOV is not at the Russia’s lineup.Basically I am only afraid of Poland ” pointed Stephane HUCLIEZ. Simon GAUZY joined big guns.”I feel small compared to others including Christophe LEGOUT who makes an outstanding career and for whom I have great respect. I have respect also for other players but I am not impressed. When I’m working with Christophe LEGOUT I give myself fully. I want to earn my place.” Carole GRUNDISCH said that the time devoted to the preparation was limited and that she had to deal with minor injuries and fatigue. “I hope that my elbow injury will not prevent me from giving my best.Whatever happens I think we will continue to improve our rankings for the next edition. I am not a fan of rankings but since it has been reformed I think it better reflects the level of players ” explained GRUNDISCH. National Championships: Greece crowned PAPAGEORGIOU and FILI
20/05/2010 – Two athletes of AS Pera Athens Kostas PAPAGEORGIOU in men’s and Christina FILI in women’s captured the titles of the Singles Event in the National Championship of Greece that took place on Vizantino Sport Center in Athens ( https://www.ettu.org 20/05/2010 – Two athletes of AS Pera Athens Kostas PAPAGEORGIOU in men’s and Christina FILI in women’s captured the titles of the Singles Event in the National Championship of Greece that took place on Vizantino Sport Center in Athens (15-16 May). PAPAGEORGIOU reiterated the success of 2005 and FILI won the gold medal in this event for the sixth time. In the final of the men’s singles 31-year player overcame Dimitris PAPADIMITRIOU from AO Tatavla 4-0 games (11-8 12-10 11-5 11-8).In the semifinal PAPAGEORGIOU excluded Tasos RINIOTIS (Olympiakos) with 4-1 and PAPADIMITRIOU beat George KOSTANTINOPOULO (AO Pefkis) 4-0. In the semifinal of the women’s singles Christina FILI succeeded by 4-1 against Katerina NTOULAKI who is playing in Spain in Valladolid Kolossa (7-11 11-7 11-9 11-5 11-4). In the semifinal FILI defeated Laura NIKOULAE (Olympiakos) 4-1 and NTOULAKI overcame Angelina PAPADAKI (AS Pera Athens) 4-2 sets. A total of eight athletes won gold medal and this fact testifies the intense rivalry that existed during the tournament. The young men George FRAGOULIS and George KONSTANTINOPOULOS (AO Tatavla/AO Pefkis) created a small surprise in Men’s Doubles Event taking the first place. They succeeded in the final match against Tasos RINIOTIS and Dimitris PAPADIMITRIOU with 3-2 sets (7-11 9-11 11-8 11-9 11-5). In Women’s Doubles Event Laura NIKOULAE and Maria CHRISTOFORAKI from Olympiakos won the title. In the final they beat the favorites to win the tournament Katerina NTOULAKI/Christina FILI 3-0 games (11-7 11-7 12-10). In Mixed Doubles Event the first place has been won by two athletes who represent worthily the Greek table tennis abroad. John VLOTINOS playing in Chartres France and Katerina NTOULAKI who plays in Kolossa of Valladolid Spain. In the final they dominated in the match against Kostas PAPAGEORGIOU/Laoura NIKOULAE with 3-0 (11-1 12-10 11-9).
