Tavros in women’s League emerged as national champions in the A1 category. The exciting final of the play offs was held in the area STAG of Peace and Friendship Stadium. The team of Tatavla prevailed with a score of 3-1 against Pera Athens regained the title after 21 years and took the seventh championship in their history! The P.K.D. Tavros achieved the same score against Pera Athens repeated the success from 2003 and won three titles this season. Both won against the theam from Pera and especially the success of AO Tatavla has special significance because they broke five years dominance of Pera! In men’s play off third place won AO Pefkis and 4th was PKD Tavros. In Women’s AE Athena Magoufanas finished third and fourth was DAO Tavros. On Saturday morning in the first final of the men’s A1 Pera beat Tatavla 4-1 and announced new fight in claiming the title.. Tatavla however retained its first place with two wins from the regular part of the championship and a few hours later achieved the decisive victory by 4-3 to clinch the title. Dimitris PAPADIMITRIOU George FRANGOULIS Stephan MANOUSOF were the leading trio helped by George MOUCHTOURIS and Panagiotis PETRIS. Architect of success for the team champion was Christos LAMIS who also was a basic player in the club’s “golden” period of six years from 1984-1985 to 1989-1990 when they took consecutive championships! “Psychology clearly influenced our first defeat in the final but we showed character and strong psychology. We made two different matches within few hours. We were strong in the second game and although we were 2-0 behind we did not give up at any point and vindicated for the tenacity and passion” George FRANGOULIS said about the great success of his team. The finals of women’s play off started after a 1-1 in league victories but P.K.D. Tavros confirmed that we are ready for the title. Our trio was more comprehensive than Pera. In the morning players from both teams were nervous but PKDT was more ready and imposed 4-0. The second had a different outcome but again PKDT was overwhelming and took the victory 4-1. FENG Jiao Jiao Maria CHRISTOFORAKI and Filareti EXARCHOU gave the great success in the team of Tavros. In the league also played Margarita ANAGNOSTOPOULOU and Konstantina PYLARINOU. The surgery took the team coach Nikos KOSTOPOULOS out from the finals and Aris TSAKIROGLOU the first coach of the club sat on the bench. The Chinese FENG who won her first championship in the third year in Greece said: “I am very happy that we won the title. It is also the unique joy that overcame Christina Fili twice first because I knew the importance of these matches on the final outcome and second because I had lost in our last clash in the league. I think we were more prepared than our opponents on the final”. (by John FAKAROS courtesy Hellenic TT Federation) Photo: The team of Tatavla 2010-2011 champion in Greece: S. MANOUSOF D.
