SCHLAGER and LIU Jia crowned ÖTTV Athletes of the Century Vienna City Hall
On the occasion of its 100th birthday the ÖTTV (Austrian Table Tennis Association) extended a warm invitation to the table tennis community and companions for an illustrious gala evening in Vienna City Hall. The event was thoughtfully infused with humor featuring a cabaret ping-pong special by Comedy Hirten and culminated in the recognition of red-white-red athletes of the century. In the esteemed presence of Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister Werner KOGLER European champion and six-time Olympian LIU Jia and world champion Werner SCHLAGER were honored as athletes of the century. Rosa SCHWEIZER and Stanislaw FRACZYK unfortunately had to cancel at short notice due to illness but were declared winners in the categories of athletes of the century with disabilities. Manfred SCHWEIZER accepted the trophy on behalf of his late wife who passed away in 1990 and FRACZYK was represented on stage by ÖTTV para national coach Johann KNOLL. The winners were determined through an audience and expert vote with red-white-red sports greats Michaela DORFMEISTER Thomas MORGENSTERN and Clemens DOPPLER acting as laudators. ETTU President Pedro MOURA and Secretary General Pierre KASS were also present at the ceremony. President MOURA was deeply moved by the special occasion and the extraordinary celebration. “It was an absolute pleasure and honor to be present at the Gala for the celebration of the 100th birthday of the Austrian Federation. Danish Table Tennis Federation to Host Career Day
The Danish Table Tennis Federation is set to host a Career day on November 18th offering insights into building a successful career in the sport. The event will feature workshops lectures and personal stories from prominent figures in the table tennis world. The workshop titled “Making a career plan – where do you want to be in five years?” will be hosted by Linus MERNSTEN and Magnus MALLANDER coaches of the Danish national team. Martin Buch ANDERSEN a rising star in Danish table tennis at just 23 years old will share his journey from starting in the Oberliga three years ago to becoming a player in the 2nd Bundesliga. His talk “My career so far: decisions and turning points ” promises valuable insights for young talents. Former French national team player and professional in the French Pro A Marie MIGOT will provide a unique perspective in her talk “A leap of faith: my life as a professional and French national team player.” Peter ROSENMEIER a two-time Danish Paralympic champion and renowned media personality in Denmark will lead a lecture and workshop on “Dealing with media self-marketing and how to negotiate contracts. Lessons from a life in the limelight.” Rosenmeier’s expertise promises to be particularly insightful for athletes navigating the complexities of media exposure and contract negotiations. The career day is part of an ongoing project by the Danish Table Tennis Federation to educate young athletes about the intricacies of building a career in table tennis. The initiative aims to help athletes visualize a path for themselves beyond their junior years fostering a supportive environment that discourages dropout rates in the sport. Through a combination of personal stories expert advice and interactive sessions the career day endeavors to empower the next generation of table tennis stars and equip them with the tools they need for a long and successful career in the sport.
SF SKK EL Niňo Praha won another thriller
SF SKK EL Niňo Praha advanced to the fourth round of the Europe Cup Men with two victories over Roskilde Bordtennis BTK61. In both legs the Czech team needed the full five matches to overcome the club from Denmark. This time Jiri VRABLIK was the backbone of the team’s success as he defeated Jens LUNDQVIST and Dominykas SAMUOLIS who also suffered at the hands of Tomas KONECNY. “It was a very close match. We had the chance to win 3:0 but then everything came again same close like in the first match in Prague ” said El Niño Praha Sport Director Matthias Landfried. TTC Neu-Ulm kicked off the Champions League season in spectacular fashion
In the first match of the season for the German club in the Champions League Men TTC Neu-Ulm defeated HB Ostrov z.s. in Group B. This marks the second defeat for the Czech team in Stage two following their loss to KS DARTOM BOGORIA Grodzisk Mazowiecki. “The 3-0 win is excellent; all three players performed very well and I can be satisfied. I really liked the atmosphere in the hall; the fans were great. Our goal is to win the entire competition so we came here with a strong lineup. And we can be even stronger for the next matches ” said TTC Neu Ulm coach Dmitry MAZUNOV. Europe’s no. 3 Dimitrij OVTCHAROV Continent’s no. 8 Truls MOREGARD and Maksim GREBNEV won all three matches without losing a game. “A lot of big European clubs could learn here how to create the right atmosphere in the Champions League. We had no idea that there would be more than a thousand fans here. The atmosphere is fantastic. I never played against David REITŠPIES but you could see that he was very nervous at first.
