Young Players Challenge the Experienced Guard at the Finnish Championships

The individual Table Tennis National Championships will take place on 22–23 March at Vuores Hall in Tampere. Titles will be decided in men’s and women’s singles and doubles, as well as mixed doubles.

In the men’s singles, a new champion will be crowned, as Benedek OLÁH will be competing in the United States’ Major League at the same time and will therefore not be aiming for his 13th senior singles national championship gold medal. The top-seeded players in the tournament are Alex NAUMI from Kosken Kaiku, Aleksi RÄSÄNEN and Arttu PIHKALA from PT Espoo, and the experienced Otto TENNILÄ from PT 75, the host club.

Marina DONNER (MBF), who has dominated the women’s singles for the past four years, has taken a break from competitions this spring due to a shoulder injury but will make her comeback in Tampere. Ramona BETZ will also be skipping this year’s championships, meaning that, alongside DONNER, other contenders for the medal matches include Maria GIRLEA from PT Jyväskylä, Aleksandra TITIEVSKAJA from PT Espoo, and Jannika OKSANEN from PT 75.

Matches will begin at Vuores Hall at 10:00 on Saturday and 09:00 on Sunday. The finals are scheduled for Sunday from 15:00 onwards. Entry to the event is free. The National Championships will be streamed live on the Finnish Table Tennis Association’s YouTube channel, PingisTV. The finals will be available to watch for free on the Ruutu+ and ISTV streaming services.

Sunday’s grand finale will feature commentary by Mika PYYKKÖ, with expert analysis from Pasi VALASTI.
