The winner of the Cadets Singles Event at the European Youth Top 10 in Tours held this weekend is Romania’s Cristian PLETEA. During the three-days competition for the prestige title in youth category PLETEA recorded wins and defeats. Irvin BERTRAND of France clinched silver whilst Germany’s Gerrit ENGEMANN is third.

The list goes on with Denis IVONIN and Artur ABUSEV of Russia Rares SIPOS of Romania Andrei PUTUNTICA of Moldova Nolan GIVONE of France Andreas DILLING of Denmark and Tom JARVIS of England.

The member of the L.P.S. Constanca admitted the he had perfect season so far. PLETEA won gold in Mixed Doubles Event silver in Doubles and Team’s Event at the 2014 European Youth Championships. “I also clinched the titles in France and Italy on junior circuit ” added 14-years old ace.

PLETEA had a bit shaky start in France.“I am not happy with my performance on the first day of the competition. The problem is that we came by car- we traveled 3.000 kilometers to get here ” explained Cristian.

The opening duel against his teammate went on Rares SIPOS’s account. “I lost 1:4 and next two matches I went full distance. I suffered defeat against Denis IVONIN of Russia; it was 3:4 with 9:11 in the decisive game. The next one against Tom JARVIS of England I won in straight matches.”

On day two Cristian was once again severely tested. Against Andrei PUTUNTICA he was stretched to full distance. “And again I won that match with 11:9 in last set. I felt better and that was important before the duel against Gerrit ENGEMANN of Germany. Artur ABUSEV came next and I beat him ” explained PLETEA.

The closing day starting with another thrilling seven games duel against Andreas DILLING of Denmark but he clinched the crown after great victory over Irvin BERTRAND of France. “I had my revenge for the defeat in the quarterfinal of the Singles Event at the European Youth Championships.”

PLETEA proved his well capable to deal with the pressure. “I think my main strength is my mentality. I am brave on crucial points.”

Next stop for youg player is World Cadet Challenge at Barbados. “I go there as the member of the European team. ENGEMANN ABUSEV and PUTUNTICA will also play. Immediately after that we have Hungarian open and Junior World Championships. I hope we can make good result in Doubles there.”
